How to calm & heal a stye

An eye stye is caused by an infection of oil glands in the eyelid. A sty can be quite painful and make patients feel self conscious. We will often provide medication to help clear up a stye, but home care is an essential part of the healing process. Dr. Edison recommends the following home care regimen for her patients, to both heal their styes and to prevent future inflammation and infection.

1. Clear Out the Infected Debris

A few times each day, apply a hot compress to the affected eye. To make a rolling compress, heat the Focused Eye Roller from We Love Eyes under warm/hot water and then roll up and down in small motions over the stye to soften and roll out the debris. Make sure to test the heat level on your wrist so you don’t burn your eyelid skin.

Sometimes a stye can be too painful to treat with heat, in which case you can place the roller under cold water to use as a calming cold compress.

2. Gently Scrub Away Debris

Place one drop of We Love Eyes Tea Tree Eyelid and Eyelash Cleansing Oil on the Eyelid Margin Scrub Brush and gently scrub the head of the stye clean. For an active stye, this can be done up to four times a day. To maintain healthy eyelids, run the scrub brush along the eyelid margins of each eye twice a day as part of your morning and evening skin care routine.

The scrub brush needs to be cleaned after every use; spraying it with the Calm Eyelid Cleansing Spray and/or Tea Tree Eyelid and Eyelash Foaming Cleanser will do the trick!

3. Maintain Clean Eyelids

After using the eye roller and/or the eyelid scrub brush with cleansing oil, it's time to wash off all that debris. Use the We Love Eyes Tea Tree Eyelid and Eyelash Foaming Cleanser to rinse away any bacteria, helping to keep your eyes stye-free. This cleanser is formulated to be probiotic, helping to keep the microbiome of your skin in balance.

Not just great for your skin, this foaming cleanser can be used to clean the eye roller and scrub brush.

4. Keep calm and carry on

The last step of this home care regimen is the We Love Eyes Calm Eyelid Cleansing Spray, which helps clear up a stye extra quickly. Use up to four times a day and spray directly onto the stye, to wash away the bacteria that may have been the cause of the stye in the first place.

This spray can also be used to clean the eye roller and scrub brush.
